The Home Opener made the BC Volleyball hearts grow fonder on Tuesday night, as the Crusaders rebounded from two straight non-section losses to beat Burgettstown.
Maddie Maziarz started the match with 2 aces to get a fast start on the night for BC. She is now 3 aces off the school’s all-time record with 236. She also added 6 assists during the set where the attackers only committed one hitting error. Sophomore Abbie Maziarz recorded four kills with no errors in the set. She finished the night with a career-high 8 kills. Set one finished with a 25-6 final score.
Set two was a balanced effort from Canevin. 12 girls played in the set. Hanna DeLisio had three aces on her march towards 100 in her career. Alexa Malloy added 4 more kills. Ana Luisa Galante recorded 4 digs as did Izzy Beichner. BC won set number 2, 25-11
The third set was a strong effort, even with a different lineup. Olivia Thomas had 3 aces and 2 kills, so did Gillian Golupski, who added eight assists as the setter. Senior Julia Balobeck went 2 for 2 in kills. Erin LaQuatra added 5 digs, while Beichner added 4 more. Halle Bergman and Rutanya Taylor each added an ace and a kill, as the Crusaders closed out the match with a 25-5 third set victory.
Thursday night Canevin is on the road at Sto-Rox. The varsity only match begins at 6 pm. The next home match is Tuesday, September 17 against the Northgate Flames.
