The Bishop Canevin Girls Varsity Basketball team took their first lead midway through the second quarter. But it didn’t last long.
Eden Christian Academy scored the final nine points of the second quarter, and went on a big run to begin the third quarter as the Warriors beat the Crusaders 46-35 at home on Monday night.
Eden took a 5-0 lead before Josie Bochicchio hit a three-point shot to put BC on the board. When Mackenzie Huet hit a running layup, the Crusaders had tied the game at seven. However, the Warriors scored the final seven points of the quarter to take the lead after one quarter.
Canevin started the second quarter on an 11-2 run to take the lead. Amber Cross hit two jumpers, the second one was a three-pointer after she made a steal for BC’s only lead of the game. Again Eden finished a quarter on a run, this time 9–0, to take a seven point lead at the half.
In the third quarter, instead of ending a quarter with a run, they began this quarter with an 11-0 run. The run was finally broken by two free throws by Aliyah Scott. Eden led by 23 after three quarters.
Canevin played hard and outscored Eden 13-1 in the final quarter. Scott scored 11 points in the second half. She was the only Crusader to score in double figures. Bochicchio hit another three and Ashley Lippold scored the game’s final three points as the Crusaders cut the final margin to 11.
Bishop Canevin drops to 3-3 in section play, 4-3 overall. Eden improves to 4-1 in the section and 7-4 overall. The two teams play each other again at Bishop Canevin on Saturday. But first, the Crusaders host Cornell on Thursday night. Game time for the Senior Night game is 7 PM. Coverage on the Bishop Canevin Sports Network will begin at 6:50 PM.
