Bishop Canevin used a balanced attack to outlast a three-point barrage from Chartiers-Houston to win a close game at home, 51-47. The Crusaders are now the only unbeaten team in Section 3-AA play, with a 5-0 section record. The Bucs drop to 3-1 in section play.
Junior Savanah Abbott scored 5 of her 11 points in the first quarter to give the Crusaders one point lead after one quarter. In the second quarter, it was sophomore Lauren Kirsch scoring 5 points of her 12 points to help keep Canevin tied at the half.
The third quarter was close throughout, and it was Freshman Ashley Lippold hitting a shot at the end of the third quarter off an assist from Maura Pechin to give the Crusaders a three point lead after three. Lippold finished the night with nine points.
in the fourth quarter, both teams started hot from the three point arc. Senior Alyssa Pollice, who had a team-high 14 points, and Kirsch each hit a three to surround two three-pointers from Char-Houston. The Bucs hit 5 three’s in the quarter and 10 in the game. Then a Lippold jumper and 2 foul shots extended the lead to seven points. After another Bucs three, Abbott grabbed a rebound drove the whole court for a hoop plus a foul. Char-Houston kept the game close but BC ran enough clock and hit enough foul shots to hold on for the 51-47 win.
Bishop Canevin’s overall record moves to 7-4. They are back in action on Thursday for another section battle at Fort Cherry to face the Rangers. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 PM after the JV game at 6 PM. Tickets for the games will be $5.
