The Bishop Canevin Baseball Team won the second game in a two game series against section opponent with a 12-6 victory at Meyer Middleton Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Monessen scored one in the top of the first inning, but BC responded in the bottom of the first. Luke Andruscik’s single brought home two and gave BC a 3-1 lead. Canevin scored in all six innings of the game, adding two in the second inning and one more in the third inning.
Monessen got back in the game with a five run fourth inning, but a RBI single by Justin Gmys increased the lead back to two runs. Gyms went 3 for 3 from the plate on the game. The Greyhounds threatened to tie the game in the fifth inning getting two men on base. Trey Varley came in to pitch in relief and got the hitter to fly out to leftfielder Dom Varley to end the threat.
Nevan Crossey came through with a RBI single to give BC an 8-5 lead in the 6th inning. Francis Bochicchio followed with a double that scored Crossey and Eli Wilson who reached on a walk. After Monessen got one in the top of the 6th, a Michael Vaughn single highlighted a two run inning that completed a 12-6 win.
Andruscik pitched 4 2/3 innings to earn the win. Trey Varley pitched the final two innings after getting out of the jam in the fifth inning.
Bishop Canevin is now 1-1 on the season. They play next against Seton-LaSalle on Friday afternoon at Meyer Middleton Field. Game time is scheduled for 4 PM.
