Bishop Canevin locked up their first ever undefeated section championship as a member of the WPIAL. BC’s lone senior, Nate Kirsch, was part of an explosive first quarter run as BC blasted Avella 96-57.
Canevin’s fast tempo set the pace early, creating offense and turnovers from the start. Dom Elliott had two of BC’s six threes in the first quarter and finished the period with ten points. Kirsch added a three and seven points. Nevan Crossey, Jhamil Fife, and Kevaughn Price each added a three, as the Crusaders hit 30 in one quarter.
Canevin scored 32 points and hit seven threes in the second quarter. Mark Ingold and Price each hit three threes in the quarter. Price had 16 points in the quarter and finished the half with 21 points. BC lead by 33 at the half.
In the third quarter, Brennan Hipkiss scored four points, Chris Andrews added a basket and Brady Zarnick hit a three. Zarnick finished the night with six points.
In the final quarter, Bryce Hinkle scored eight of his 10 points. Mike McFetridge and Geno DeFrank also added baskets as Canevin reached 96 on the scoreboard.
The Crusaders conclude the regular season Monday night at South Fayette. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM. On Tuesday night, the team will find out the playoff brackets at the WPIAL Playoffs Pairings Meeting.
