The Bishop Canevin Boys Varsity Basketball team fell behind early on Saturday afternoon at Berlin Brothersvalley. They rallied to within two points in the fourth quarter but were unable to pass the Mountaineers as Berlin hung on for a 71-63 victory.
Bishop Canevin fell behind by 12 points after one quarter. The Crusaders’ only offense in the quarter came from Dom Elliott with six points and Jaden Gales with five points. Gales added nine points in the second quarter and Elliott added four, but BC fell behind by 18 at the half.
The deficit was 20 points early in the third quarter when Canevin began to get back into the game. Trey Champine scored 10 points as BC closed the quarter on a 17-4 run to finish trailing only by seven.
The run continued a the start the final quarter. A Gales layup completed an 8-3 run as BC climbed to within 56-54. Gales finished with a team high 21 points. The teams exchanged baskets for the next three minutes. BC had the ball trailing by three with two and a half minutes remaining when a controversial turnover call led to six straight points for Berlin to clinch the game.
Trey Champine finished with 15 points, all in the second half as the Crusaders rallied. Dom Elliott finished with 14 points. Bishop Canevin is now 3-3. Their next game is Tuesday night at Sto-Rox. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
