The Bishop Canevin Boys Varsity Basketball team used fast starts in each of the first three quarters to cruise to an 81-41 section victory at Avella on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders only needed 60 seconds to take an 8-0 lead. Jaden Gales scored six of those points and finished with eight in the quarter. Kevaughn Price converted two steals into layups. Shea Champine entered the game and scored seven points as BC scored 25 in the quarter.
Canevin also scored eight points in the first minute of the second quarter. Three pointers by Dom Elliott and Nevan Crossey preceded a layup by Kai Spears. Elliott hit another three and scored ten in the first half. Gales added six points on his way to a game-high 18 points. A three from Brennan Hipkiss finished a 28 point second quarter for BC and gave them a 28 point lead going to the locker room.
Elliott’s third three of the game and baskets by Price and Gales gave Canevin a 7-0 start in the first minute of the third quarter. Elliott finished with 15 points. Nevan Crossey hit his second three-pointer of the game and the Crusaders outscored the Eagles 19-4 in the third quarter.
All of BC’s points in the final quarter came from the foul line. Champine hit all four of his free throws to finish with 14 points. Brady Zarnick hit three and Francis Bochicchio hit both of his shots as the Crusaders finished the 81-41 win.
Bishop Canevin is now 6-0 in section play, 9-3 overall. They are on a six game win streak. Their next game is at home on Wednesday night. They play a non-section game against Central Catholic. The JV game is scheduled to start at 6 PM with the Varsity game to follow at 7:30 PM. Coverage on the Bishop Canevin Sports Network will begin at 5:55 PM.
