Shea Champine hit a basket with 6 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. Then Mark Ingold hit a three-pointer to ignite an 8-0 run in overtime as the a Bishop Canevin JV Boys Basketball team won at Berlin Brothersvalley 56-53 on Saturday afternoon.
The Mountaineers took a 12-4 lead to start the game. Adante Berrian hit a basket then forced a steal and drove for a layup to cut the lead to four after one quarter. Berrian added five points in the second quarter and Shea Champine hit two three’s for part of his ten points in the quarter. Berlin led by three at the half.
Champine scored eight of BC’s 12 points in the third quarter, including two free throws as the quarter expired, as the Crusaders held Berlin to only seven points in the quarter. BC had a two point lead going to the final quarter.
The fourth quarter was close throughout. Champine’s basket with six seconds left answered a Berlin basket earlier in the final minute to send the game to overtime.
The Mountaineers scored first but Ingold’s three, his first basket of the game, sparked the 8-0 run that eventually decided the game. Keyshawn Harris added a three and Champine scored the last of his 26 points to give BC a six point lead. Harris finished with 10 points. A Berlin three point shot rattled out at the buzzer and Canevin held on for the three point overtime victory.
The JV Crusaders are now 3-1 on the season. Their next game is at Sto-Rox on Tuesday night. Game time is scheduled for 6 PM.
