Bishop Canevin ended their regular season on Thursday night with a 5-1 win over Morgantown at the Mt. Lebanon Ice Rink. The Crusaders have a two game winning streak going into Monday’s Quarterfinal Playoff against Connellsville.
Canevin took control of the game early, as they scored before three minutes had elapsed. Turner Anselm and Ian Lecker assisted on the goal. BC dominated the second period, outshooting Morgantown 16-4, but didn’t score until Anselm put one in the back of the net with 59 seconds left in the second period. A Ryan Saginaw assist off of the following faceoff led to another goal 10 seconds later and the Crusaders led 3-0 entering the final period.
Anselm and Saginaw combined forces to assist on Canevin’s fourth goal early in the final period. Morgantown broke the shutout in the game’s last minute. But Lecker’s empty-net goal with 14 seconds left need any comeback hopes.
Bishop Canevin ends the regular season with a record of 11-5-2, good for 24 points. They are tied for second place in the North Division with Wilmington. BC played one fewer game than Wilmington.
The Crusaders enter the PIHL Class B Playoffs as the #4 seed . They are scheduled to face the 5th seeded Connellsville Falcons. The game is scheduled for the Delmont Ice Arena on Monday night for a 9 PM faceoff. BC defeated Connellsville in their only regular season meeting, 3-2, on November 5.
