On the last day of section play this season, we learned something new about the Bishop Canevin Girls Soccer team Saturday afternoon from their game at Eden Christian Academy.
They can come from behind.
Ainsley Smith and Sarah Barron scored for the Crusaders after they gave up the first goal, to give BC a 2-1 victory in their final section game of the regular season. Canevin finished the section schedule undefeated with a record of 10-0-2. Eden Christian finished at 7-5-0. Both teams have earned playoff berths and will be awaiting the announcement of their playoff pairings after all regular season play concludes on Monday.
For only the second time this season, BC fell behind as they conceded their fourth goal of the season. However in the 26th minute Ainsley Smith took possession off of a turnover in front of the Eden goal and chipped the ball inside the left post to tie the game at one. That was the score at the half.
The only goal of the second half started with a rush down the right sideline from Ashley Lippold. She centered the ball and her pass was cleared by an Eden defender right to Sarah Barron. Barron acted quickly and fired the ball inside the left post for the winning goal.
Bishop Canevin has one more regular season non-section match Monday night. They face Keystone Oaks at Dormont Stadium on Monday night. Game time is scheduled for 6 pm.
