The girls track team had two tough opponents standing in their way of an undefeated season and a section championship. Chartiers-Houston and an always strong South Park team were the opposition on Monday afternoon in front of a capacity crowd. The girls did not back down and came out victorious over both schools, winning 92-47 over the Bucs and 75-66 over South Park.
The 4×800m relay team with Erin LaQuatra, Mackenzie Huet and Lauren Kirsch started the meet off with a victory in their race over both teams. The undefeated 4×100m relay team with Lauren Kirsch, Alaina Barlock, and Ainsley Smith continued to show why they are one of the best in the WPIAL with additional first places over both teams in their event. Kirsch and Huet came back and ran the 400m and took 1-2 against CH and 2-3 against South Park. Molly Frick finished 3rd in the 300m hurdles to keep the title hopes alive.
Next, was the 800m where the team needed points and Erin LaQuatra did not disappoint when she narrowly beat South Park’s top runner for a 1st place. Ainsley Smith again came out strong in the 200m and scored valuable points. The 3200m was next and Abby Sysak won with another PR performance to dominate the race. The 4×400m relay team with LaQuatra, Huet, and Kirsch ran a season best time while beating CH in the final race on the track.
