Collin Milko finished in 3rd place at the WPIAL Class AA Individual Championships on Saturday at Canon-McMillan. His third place finish qualifies him for the SWAA Regional Tournament being held at IUP this weekend. This tournament is the last step before the PIAA Tournament.
The Section Championships were held at Montour on Friday. Milko defeated his first two opponents from Montour and Avonworth both by pins. His final opponent in the round-robin, Amir McCracken from Quaker Valley also defeated those two opponents. Milko pinned McCracken in the first period to win the Individual Section Championship in the 215 lb. weight class. Collin pinned all three opponents without allowing a point to any of his competitors.
Two other Canevin wrestlers also qualified for the Section Championships. Francis Skindzier defeated a wrestler from Montour on his way to a 3rd place finish in the 138 lb. class. Alex also qualified for the tournament and finished 4th in the 132 lb. class.
Milko advanced to Saturday’s Class AA finals as the #2 seed. His semifinal match was tied at three when his opponent from Knoch was able get the pin. This sent Milko to the Consolation Bracket.
In the Consolation Bracket, Milko dominated his two matches. He was ahead of his opponent from Central Valley 9-2 when he earned the pin. This advanced him to the Consolation Final. Needing to win this match to advance to the Regional Tournament, Milko never left any doubt. He scored 5 points in the first period against Tasso Makropodis from McGuffey. Collin pushed the lead to 10-3 before gaining the fall in the third period and clinching his berth in the regionals.
