Girls Varsity Soccer · Girls Soccer earns #4 seed for upcoming WPIAL Playoffs


The Bishop Canevin Girls Soccer Team will begin their 2020 playoff run Saturday afternoon against the Serra Catholic Eagles at Peters Township High School.   Game time is scheduled for1 PM. BC was awarded the #4 seed in the WPIAL Class A Playoffs.

The Crusaders finished the regular season with a 11-0-2 overall record.  BC was 10-0-2 inSection 4-A to win their first section championship since 2013.  This is Canevin’s fifth straight
playoff appearance. Last year BC defeated McGuffey 2-1 in overtime to advance past the FirstRound, they were eliminated by Freedom 6-0 in the Quarterfinals.

Serra Catholic finished in 4th place in Section 1-A with a 4-4-1 section record and a 5-5-1 record overall.  This is the Eagles’ sixth straight playoff appearance. Last year they defeated South Side Beaver 1-0 in the First Round of the playoffs before being eliminated by Bentworth 3-1 in the
Quarterfinals.

The Crusaders and Eagles faced each other in a scrimmage on August 31. Bishop Canevin won 3-2 on two goals from Ainsley Smith, one on a penalty kick, and a goal from Lauren Kirsch.

The winner of Saturday’s game will move on to the WPIAL Quarterfinal round.  They will face the winner of Saturday’s game between 5 th seeded Sewickley Academy and #12 seed South Side Beaver. That game will be played on Wednesday, October 28 at 6:30 pm.  The location will be
announced by the WPIAL on Monday.

Ticket prices are set by the WPIAL.  All tickets are general admission and will cost $7 each.  Ticket distribution will be determined based on the capacity allowed at each individual game site.
